Annecy rained on my parade Day 1: March 28, 2009
- Uneventful overnight flight to Lyon except I got nauseated by the airplane food. I used to look forward to them (why? I don't know) but I think my love has ended.
- For this trip, my first time speaking French was to a station agent since I had to pick up my train ticket. SUCCESS! Let's see if it goes up or down from here.
- I lost my pencil and had to play Sudoku in pen. Hardcore.
- I composted my ticket and boarded the train like I knew what I was doing.
- Train ride went by farm animals - goats and roosters - that liked to live dangerously close to the tracks. They have nerves of steel.
- It was raining when I got to Annecy, just like when I left Atlanta.
- I couldn't figure out how to call a taxi (it was confusing or maybe my brain stopped working) so I just walked to my hotel.
- I stayed at Hotel du Palais de l'Isle. It has the smallest lobby known to man.
- The receptionist made no attempt to speak to me in English. I was incognito.
- Rain was a good excuse to take a nap. I used to not believe in being affected by time zones or time changes, but after this trip, I'm convinced.
- France had to be "fun" and spring forward one hour the first night I arrived. Thanks a whole bunch.
- After an ill-advised nap, I churchified myself and visited 5 churches. I went into 3.
- Being inside a nightclub? Fun mostly. Trying to sleep in a hotel room beside one? Not so much. But I was disappointed in their partying skills. They only kept me up until 2am.
Train station at the Lyon airport is kinda spectacular. It was like I was in a Romulan Bird of Prey because of course I know what that feels like. It was pretty empty because most people take the train station in the city.
